Resident Alien’s Season 4 shift to USA posed an interesting challenge for the marketing team. While we were confident that fans who had already discovered the series on SYFY and Peacock (and Netflix) would find this new season wherever we aired it, we wanted to figure out a way to tap into a new audience of USA fans who may be unfamiliar with the show. This prompted us to return to the show’s roots and hone in on the things we knew fans truly loved about Resident Alien.
For Seasons 1 and 2, we treated Resident Alien as a pure comedy. For Season 3, we heavily embraced the sci-fi elements of the show. For Season 4, we realized the sweet spot was probably somewhere in the middle. We didn’t want to hide the comedy… We didn’t want to hide the sci-fi… But we realized that by highlighting our lead, Harry (and Alan Tudyk’s masterful performance), and that blend of humor and heart that really separates Resident Alien from other series, those other things would shine through organically, and the true nature of the show would be apparent.
